Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11A v Havant on Mon 08 Aug 2011 at 5.30pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 35 runs
Match report
Our final game this year came against a side that had just to beat us to clinch the title. Losing the toss we were asked to field. Oscar and George opened the bowling and before we knew it we had taken 5 wicket from Havant's first pair. George already had his eyes on "man of the match" as his first over brought two wickets, bowled and stumped. Oscar got in on the act with a bowled wicket in the next over, while George's second over saw him bowl another and Robbie's great work yield a run-out. Our next two bowlers didn't let up either. In Robbie's two overs he picked up two wickets for 4 runs, one bowled and the other good edge taken behind with Ollie standing up. Will was his usual tidy self keeping a good line & length. Our third pair picked up an further 3 wickets. Dan hit the stumps once and Tom matched Robbie's figures of earlier, bowling two. Peter and Theo kept a lid on things too which built the pressure and allowed Tom to effect an other run out. Fabian bowled his two overs very tightly and when George and Oscar wound it all up with another wicket a piece, thanks to second Ollie stumping and a cracking catch from that man George, we had kept the leagues top team to 229 having taken 13 wickets!
With the bat Oscar and Peter batted very sensibly with staight bats - Peter cracking a four back over the bowlers head. A run out was the only blot on their copy book. Slide you bat in folks!! Theo and Tom kept their wickets very well. They ran well too, as did Robbie and George who also cracked two fours in his unbeaten 10. With us well in front it was important we worked hard at defending our wickets. Will defended and left with aplomb but Dan as unlucky get a couple of good ones. As our last two came to the crease we were 5 in front but Fabian being taken for a thunderbolt caught and bowled could have made it tighter. However, 4 fours from Ollie and two from Fabian coupled with some resolute defence saw us home to seal our most complete performance of the season. Well played.
