Match report P&S batted first and took a positive stance from the outset. Seth Jackson and Sam Collings-Wells scored singles off the good balls and boundaries off anything short. Portsmouth Captain Jack Marston decided more control of the game was needed and took on the bowling himself. Accurate bowling soon removed the stumps of Jackson(22). Portsmouth’s bowling was clearly a strong point for the team and wickets regularly fell. However, P&S remained focused on a continuous aggressive run rate to post a score of 143 ao with 2 balls to play. Top contributions came from Tom Benfield(30)and Collings Wells(29).

P&S needed to maintain that focus in the field if they were to keep Portsmouth in check. Opening bowlers Leo Patterson(4-0-12-2) & Sam Corbett (3-1-10-1) kept the openers in check. On change of bowlers Jack Marston realised the run rate needed to accelerate and powered a short ball to square leg. He stood in disbelief as Sam Corbett leaped to his right, but reached the ball with his left hand to complete a stunning ‘Collingwoodesque’ catch. In the 18th over Collings-Wells (3-0-18-4) provided the nails with his first ever hat-trick thanks to 2 catches from Patterson and a fine stumping from Tom Farnworth. Patterson then hammered the nails in next over taking the last 2 wickets and leaving Portsmouth 49 runs short.
