Match report A win - and a good one considering we took to the field with only five men. That brings me on to the tale of woe that is Dan Cleary. At 8 o'clock he was stranded at Chichester Station and likely to be late for the game. Thanks to the good will of the team manager he made it. Dan promptly ran Jake out, one run short of a deserved retirement and then twisted his ankle taking a quick single. Just a thought Dan, if you intend to model yourself on Mark Smith copy his appetite for runs and quick hands - not the ability to find injury in the most bizzar fashion!
Anyway back to the game. Joe got us off to a flier while Rob retired in a more sedate way although both guys hit the back wall regularly. Jake found the gaps & ran well before the he was sawn off by DC. Sheepish after his work with Jake, Dan played well striking cleanly until his own disaster struck. This left Ben, Smudge and the returning Joe to get us up to a good score of 152.
Being a man down in the field is always a challenge and things looked rough when their openers took a shine to Rob's teasing spin. Joe also got a bit of early tap before they both came back well. At the halfway point they were up with us but with Jake and Ben to see us home we felt we had a good chance and so it proved. Both lads bowled straight, pacing and bouncy stuff which with Smudge's great glovework got through the card and slowed the runs to a relative trickle, seeing us home 10 runs to the good. MoM goes to Ben as he heads back to Jersey for Christmas - we'll miss him next week.
