Fareham & Crofton v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13A on Sun 10 May 2009 at 10am
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 68 runs

Match report Losing the toss, Captain Sam Collings-Wells was invited to bat first on a bright but breezy Sunday morning. He soon set about the Fareham bowlers dispatching the balls to all corners of the boundary reaching his retirement in record double quick time. He was very ably supported by his opening partner, Ed Coulson, who played a measured innings while big-hitting Seb Herold , batting at number 3 followed his captain’s example and quickly notched up 30 runs before retiring to the pavilion. He was replaced by Matt Walker who, despite his confident start was caught off a top edge for 5. Soon after, Ed Coulson notched up his second retirement in successive matches. Joined at the crease by Tom Lavery and then Harrison Whitworth, both batsmen settled in quickly and started knocking up a formidable score. With Harrison approaching a mid-twenties score, Tom retired in the final over of the innings, leaving little time for Charlie Corbett to get off the mark for 1 run not out. In all, a truely impressive batting display, the team managed to reach a near record 178 for 1.
After a quick break, and with the weather clouding over with a stiff chill breeze off Fareham Creek, P&S took to the field with Seb Herold opening the bowling. Running in down the hill he bowled with venom and pace, claiming the wicket of their opening bat, while from the other end, Charlie Corbett bowled straight and economically, unfortunately without a wicket to reflect his tidy spell. Joe Hawkins replaced Seb for a 2 over spell including a maiden over, while Harrison Whitworth was the pick of the bowlers, bowling up the hill for figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 1 for 4 for an economy rate of 1.33. To allow the Captain the opportunity to assess the remainder of the bowlers, Ben Jackson, Pat Sillence, Charlie Wheeler, and Tom Lavery were each given a short spell. Batting out their full allocation of overs, Fareham managed to reach a commendable 110 for 2, 68 runs short.
The team can be very proud of their performance today, particularly the batsmen.

Training for the next match to focus on, catching and sharper fielding supported by tighter and more economical bowling – Well done everybody for the first win of the season.
