Basingstoke & North Hants II v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 06 Aug 2022 at 12.30pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report After last week’s disappointment the team bounced back with a terrific batting performance following a tough session in the field. Basingstoke won the toss and unsurprisingly chose to bat in what has become customary hot weather. The pitch looked hard and full of runs and so it proved.
The opening bowlers made a decent start reducing the home side to 30 for 2 in the first nine overs. When Ben dismissed Froud at 56, little did he realise that he had introduced a major problem. Donaldson hit his first ball for six over long on. He went on to play what could have been a match winning innings and shared a partnership of 141 with Jayakody who was emboldened by his new partner. All the bowlers except Jake and Matt had to endure some rough treatment before Donaldson was caught on the boundary. Four wickets fell for 22, three of them to Matt, exposing the soft underbelly of Basingstoke’s batting order. Shahane, who appeared to be too low in the batting order then guided the home side to a very healthy total thanks to the addition of 47 runs from the last nine overs.
Despite the quality of the pitch, 267 looked a daunting target, higher than any previous run chase this season. However, Shaun’s early assault on Bradley put his team on the front foot straight away. Every scoring shot he played was a boundary and he looked set for a big score before playing on at 53 in the sixth over. Jake and Matt added only 9 before the latter was caught off a slower ball. Jack and Jake added 59 in 11 overs . When Jake was caught on the long on boundary the home side really began to suffer. Jack , shrugging off his recent disappointments, set about the bowling with relish and peppered the boundary. His partnership with Chris realised 149 in under 16 overs. There were still 14 overs to go when Jack made the winning hit. It must have been a relief for the home fielders, one of whom was already suffering from cramp.
The news that both Langley Manor and Sway had both lost did nothing to diminish the euphoria of this victory.
