Rowledge v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club T20 on Sun 13 Sep 2020 at 14.30pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 5 runs

Match report The charming Recreation Ground at Rowledge was the setting for another memorable day in this wonderful Covid-shortened mini-season. The team travelled north, not knowing which team they would play in the afternoon’s semi-final. Premier Division Bournemouth were contesting the quarter final with Division One Rowledge. Perhaps surprisingly, Bournemouth, featuring Minor Counties players, failed by four runs.
Ben won the toss and chose to bat. Rowledge opened up with a left and a right arm spinner. After three overs, the score was 14 for none. The fourth over brought problems with both Matt and Ollie dismissed. Alex announced himself with two powerful boundaries but perished to a swirling well taken skier in the next over. Tom joined Jack who was on five, to add 60 in eight overs. This was by far the highest partnership of the match. Dean followed seven runs later and Umar at 114 but these setbacks mattered little as Jack had already gone into overdrive, dominating the strike and scoring the bulk of the 47 added in the last four overs. He finished with 61% of the team score. There are international batsmen who haven’t made 90 in a T20 game. Bizarrely, P & S had scored the same total as had Rowledge in the morning.
Jake took the first over and the first wicket, Yates being caught behind. Keiron opened from the north end and twelve runs were conceded. Jake sent back the other opener in the third over (20 for 2). Ben kept faith with Keiron and was rewarded when Lloyd was stumped at 24 for 3. In the sixth over, Keiron struck again, bowling the aggressive William Ryman. Ben entered the attack and ended a partnership of 33 by having Baker caught behind (69 for 5 in eleven overs). Ten runs later, Ethan Martin skied a gentle catch to Dean to give Ben another wicket. When Ollie Ryman was pinned by Umar, things looked bad for the home team on 88 for 7 with less than six overs left. Max Martin joined Jake Wish who had provided the backbone of the innings. Together they added 32 in four overs, but in the nineteenth over, Jake had Wish caught comfortably at long off . He conceded only three so Rowledge needed seventeen from the last over to be bowled by Jono. His first ball cleaned up Martin. Rowledge appeared to have no tail enders as number 11 was their captain, Ben Wish who hit a six, a four and single, but two dot balls made sure of victory.
The Plate final will be played at St James’s next Sunday. Division Two Fair Oak are the visitors.
