St Cross v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 17s on Thu 23 Aug 2018 at 10.30
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost By 5 wkts

Match report Without a number of first choice Reading Festival bound 17 year olds and none of our exam result collecting U16s, we took less experienced side to Mays Bounty than we might have hoped. However all our players held their own and for 3 quarters of the contest it was game on against a good St Cross outfit.
Promoted to open Mani pulled Hampshire Academy starlet Zac Organ behind square for 4 first ball (less said about his second ball the better though!). Tristan C and guest Tom Sherry settled in well and had ticked the board up to 35 when Tristan got a snorter to be caught behind. Ollie joined Tom in the 6th over and they weren't parted until the 16th shortly after Tom's pugnacious, positive knock ended with a cracking boundary catch. Stan Nay was quickly into his stride and he and Ollie hurried 30 until they fell within a ball of each other, both caught going big in the last over. Setting a chase of 136 we had a chance.
Our bowling was on message (only 2 extras) but our catching rather let us down. Dan castled their skipper (who we hear cracked an unbeaten ton in the final) and Mani's first ball accounted for their other dangerous opener thanks to calm catching by Stan. Ollie C put a very tight set of 3 together and but for some rather sloppy fielding would have gone for about half the runs he conceded. Numbers 3 and 4 didn't know whether to twist or stick against his brother, Charlie's, flight and turn with Umar and Tristan C making no mistakes with the catches. Unfortunately our dropping their 3 top scorers (a couple of times in two cases) meant we couldn't make the good position pay. That said we should take nothing away from their number 3 who middled ball after ball scoring his runs all around the ground. His explosive work in over 14 broke the back of chase and although Dan got him to find Tom at cow corner, the damage was done. Even then had we have taken a couple more tough ones we might have taken it deeper - particularly due to Joel's very compact spell.
It was not to be though and our finals day adventure was cooked. It transpires we were beaten by the eventual winners so no shame there.
Thanks to all the lads who have played this season you've done yourselves and P&S proud.
