Match report We seem to be ticking off the results without quite hitting our straps and tonight was just such a case against a young Portsmouth (B) 6.
Winning the toss we chose to bat as usual but in the face of some pace-off bowling weren't as fluent as we'd hope. Harlan perished in the teens but for a while Ollie and Nick got into the running groove. Once Ollie had retired Dan joined Nick to keep the show rolling and a couple of back wall cracks added the impetus we needed. After Nick had made it back Freddie and Dan closed things out with decent running before Freddie was run out off the final ball. 130 to defend certainly had us in the game.
With Harlan unable to bowl we needed the rest of the attack to work well. With some good pace from Dan & Nick, Freddie using his usual guile and even Ollie having a (slightly more expensive) trundle, we never let them get up with the rate. An early run out was followed by a bowled scalp for Nick. Freddie had a tight stumping turned down but recovered well to beat a big swing for his wicket. Ollie finally found his radar to castle the number 4 immediately before Dan's return for his final over. Dan went on to consolidate his position as our most potent wicket threat taking the two wickets to ensure a full point win. The first came thanks to Harlan's "2 wall" catch at point and then the very next ball he had a quick one find the top of off.
With one game to go we are 13 points ahead so a win will definitely see us crowned champs. Lets see if we can bring the A game and sign off as we'd like.
