Match report
This was one of those "if only" games where dozens of incidents could have altered the outcome, but this was a match that should have been won. Indeed, the home side thought they were going to lose until the last ball.
Much to the visitors' surprise, Bishop's Waltham decided to bat on a very green pitch which was mowed shortly before the game began. They were soon in dire straits. Both openers were gone inside 4 overs and after 20 overs they were 32 for 5. By this stage, Matt was bowled out and Jono had replaced Chris who had removed the much-heralded Bhimsaria from Hong Kong. Only one boundary had been struck, by Quincy, who was to prove a thorn in the visitors' side.
Medhurst brought some aggression to the crease and with Quincy, added 38 in 13 overs. This was to be the biggest partnership of the match. Dalton didn't stay long, but Bradley and Quincy added 37 for the eighth wicket in 10 overs, to reach a total far more respectable than had seemed likely.
In contrast to the home team's start, P & S reached 32 in the seventh over without losing a wicket. At the half-way stage, the score was 76 for 4. James then helped Matt add 31. Richard went at 108. Ben and Matt took the score on to 138 with three overs to go before Matt became one of six victims in the match to skied catches. This illustrated how difficult it was to drive the ball on this pitch. Chris scored 2 from the penultimate over, so three were needed from the last over. Ben scored a single from the first ball. Chris skied the fourth ball and was caught. A dot ball followed and Ben was run out at the bowler's end from the final delivery by a fielder who kept his head in a frantic situation.
