Ryde II v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 19 Jul 2008 at 2:00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won 5 wkts

Match report The perfect 10.
A fine result for "the worst side in the league" (as one of our opponents kindly taged us) on our first overseas tour under the current skipper.
Losing the toss we were asked to field and hit our straps early, with both Deano and Matt finding Smudge's gloves via outside edges. The 3rd wicket took a little time to come but Deano finally got his man (he had alternately cracked Dean for four and run for cover) courtesy of Lightinghand Cleary in the gully. The introduction of Roy paid dividends immediately with another Ct Behind. Kes joined the attack and although he was to go wicketless provided bounce and turn and attacked with guile. By this stage their no. 6 was well established and batting very well. This prompted a switch to Fletch who again finished strongly for us picking 2 in his final over. At the end we were pushing hard to bowl them all out but Deano's best efforts were thwarted and he came up one shy of a 5-fa. On a decent track we were confident that 180 odd was well within our grasp - even following a magnificent tea.....
Once again a solid platform was provided as Dan raced out of the blocks with SS watchfully keeping him company - only a 50 run partnership this week -breaking the run of 100's. With Simon gone, to stains of Land of Our Fathers, the Jones boy waded into the fray and he and the Run Machine Cleary (another phrase it didn't think I'd be typing (see Capital report)) took us to the brink. Shortly after completing his, long overdue, first 50 of the year Owen departed having played a decisive hand. Unfortuantely he quickly followed by the tiring DC who was well run out - the home side long having given up any attempt to catch him! With 14 needed we proceeded to lose a further couple of guys who should have played with more responsibility - yours truely banged to rights - but in defence the game was well won by then. As we've come to expect of him Alex played with a cool head and was there to watch Smudge stroke a straight drive for 4 to cap a very good day out. A very lucky result for a batch a guys who have somehow sneaked their last 9 games too.
