Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hambledon III on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 2:00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won 10 wkts

Match report The Magnificent 7.

We lost the toss and were asked to bowl - for once the Skipper would have batted! A very tidy opening few overs from both Doug and Matt saw them reduced to 18 for 3 and but for a couple of drops could have been in even more trouble. Our change bowlers Kes and Roy struggled initally to settle in but a few overs in were making scoring difficult. Roy was particularly unlucky with two drops and a stumping going begging. However Kes got into the wickets getting rid of their dangerous No.4 & 5. Sensible batting from the lower order meant the only other wicket we took was a run out but we were confident that their total of 165 was getable. And how...
Many congratulations to Dan Cleary for his maiden ton. Laced with drives, cuts and particularly pulls, his innings certainly kept the scoreboard ticking. Simon worked as an excellent foil simply rotating the strike and taking boundrays as they were on offer. At drinks we were 25 away from their total with Dan on 90. Despite a number of extras Simon managed to ensure Dan made it to a well deserved 100. Top effort.
