Match report A win in the local derby keeps us in the title hunt. Portsmouth sportingly allowed us to bat first as we were 2 short at 4.10 due to bad traffic on the motorway. The Harry's got us cracking with a couple of back wall hits despite tight, straight bowling from the Pompey openers. Following a couple of run out scares HW perished going for a maximum bringing Dan to the crease to join Harry G. Excellent running from these two, and later from Ollie, got us to a good base. First Harry then Dan retired without too much excitement before Will was run out pushing things on. Ollie picked the wrong ball to force which called HG back. With Russell playing his part to a tee, HG pushed us to a competitive total with 3 further maximums. He was unable to see us home though, going to a decent caught and bowled. Dan joined Russell to add a final couple of scampered 3s.
Their openers started confidently but found it hard to get away. The first wicket to fall was due to a fortunate bounce off a decent shot that was accepted well by Harry G. Russell kept his head to run out their No3 after a difference of opinion between the batters. Will was rewarded for a well flighted ball when he drew the batter into missing one aiming a big hit. Will was again in the game with a run out soon after. When Harry W picked up his seconded deserved scalp, bowling his man round his legs to hit middle, we were almost home. Their last man, well supported by his runner, nudged them closer but Dan rounded off his good evening by castling him.
Just one match left - a good win there and we'll still be there or thereabouts. Keep it up lads.
