Match report P and S travelled to Waterlooville for the opening game of the U19 T20 blast. In order to fulfill this fixture we ended up playing with 9 (Sean had 18 others decline and Captain Ben had a few more), the 9 included 3 U15, but the 9 we had were solid enough players so Ben won the toss and chose to field.
Ben captained very well, put what fielders he did have in the right places and we were well in the game. Harrison took a wicket with a top edge to Jez. After that the numbers 2 and 3 werent finding the boundary and we were still in the game with lots of dot balls. Charlie picked up a wicket at the end of his 4 overs and Harlan had picked 2 wickets. The 9 men had fielded and bowled really well, with Harlan the pick of some decent bowling performances. We needed to chase 135.
With the help of some fast but wide bowling and some aggressive ticking over by Charlie and Viraat, we were on par with Waterlooville's innings. However no one really got in and made a score. Charlie was given lbw, Viraat and Harrison were bowled and we were 39 for 3 still needing the best part of 100. Jez wasnt his usual self, never really got going and was caught as he tried to push on with the rate going up, Ben perished too trying to push the score along. The odd boundary from Dimash was keeping our innings alive, but the rate was getting away from us, Dimash was bowled for a decent 20. Harlan and Dillon chipped in some late runs to get us over the 100.
The 9 men did remarkably well, we were well in the game until the last 4 or 5 overs, and with two more players we would have fancied our chances.
