Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 15 runs

Match report With only 6 of the regular team available and 4 debutants P&S went into the game needing only 1 point to win the league. Liphook, who had recently beaten Hambledon, came looking to continue their end of season form. Liphook won the toss and decided to bat and quickly put runs on the board. Their run rate would have been quicker had Captain Seth Jackson (4-2-1-6) not decided to open with his own spin with the new ball. Jez Pidgeon(U9) was like a firecracker in the field and his enthusiasm was rewarded by a direct hit run out. However, Liphook continued their aggressive batting throughout and reached 107 for 6.

P&S started well with 11 off the first over, but when Seth lost his wicket in the 6th over the required run rate started to rise. Tom Benfield was top scorer with 21 with Kai Pidgeon and Seth Jackson both scoring 17. However, despite scoring the same number of runs off the bat as Liphook, their better fielding and tighter bowling gave Liphook victory by 15 runs.

The result gave P&S 6 points sufficient to win the league. Well done to all the boys who have played for the U13as this year and for the spirit and sportsmanship they have shown. Thank you to the parents for getting the boys to the games on time & providing the teas; Tim Jacobs, Dave Chisholm and Dave Farnworth for helping with umpiring and Ray Benfield for his umpiring and his time preparing the wicket; and lastly to Julie Jackson for her scoring and getting the results onto the website quickly so Debbie Collings-Wells can update the league table.
