Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI v Lymington II on Sat 15 Jun 2019 at 12.30
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 48 runs

Match report This was the performance we’ve been waiting to see for too long. An unpromising day could not prevent the game going ahead thanks to Ray and Keith and the two umpires, Steve Nicholson and Stuart Collins who were determined to see the match completed, despite the 1:30 start and a 45 minute rain break during the Lymington innings. Both teams were keen to play after the motorway closure had condemned the visitors to a journey of two and a quarter hours.
Not surprisingly, Lymington chose to field first, but had to work hard for the breakthrough which came in the eleventh over, Matt edging a good ball behind with 40 on the board. Ollie soon followed him back to the pavilion. Chris and Jack then embarked on a partnership of 156 in 25 overs which guaranteed a good total, was good to watch, and brought both of them their highest score of the season. The match had been reduced to 46 overs each and for the last five of the first innings, Alex demonstrated why he should be in the first team, hitting the ball very hard.
Lymington started aggressively with five boundaries before Chris struck in the fifth over and was on a hat trick before it finished. Ben was brought into the attack to bowl the eighth over and dismissed Hunt thanks to a good catch from Dean. Another over was bowled before the rain drove the players off with the score on 50 for 3 from 9 overs.
When the rain relented, the target was reduced to 236 in 34 overs. In effect, Lymington needed 186 from 25 overs. Immediately, Jake bowled a wicket maiden. McCurdy then gave vital support as Chandler took on the home attack . Keiron took the brunt of the punishment, but did remove McCurdy (126 for 5). Naylor then took on the same role as Chandler continued to punish the bowlers. Eventually, after losing several balls, he was brilliantly caught and bowled by Matt (168 for 6) with six overs left. The last four wickets fell for 20 and maximum points had been secured. This enabled us to jump to seventh in the table, above Purbrook and Hythe.
