Match report A typically green early season pitch awaited as Jack lost the toss and was invited to bat in Fareham’s first match back in the Southern League. Fareham’s decision reaped early success when Clem edged the third ball to the keeper. Not surprisingly, batting was not straightforward with variable bounce encouraging the home attack but Ollie and Matt added 60 in 16 overs before Matt skied a drive. Unusually, Jack hit his wicket while hitting a six at 95 for 3. Tom and Ollie added 39 before three wickets fell for nine runs. Ollie’s excellent innings ended on 152 for 7. He batted for two hours and 35 minutes, giving the innings a real backbone. Fareham’s hopes of finishing the innings quickly were dashed by Jono’s cameo. He and Ben also added 39.
Fareham’s openers began brightly with 20 from the first twenty balls, but they were soon 25 for 3 (11 overs). Muhammad took his first League wicket (40 for 4) before Keiron chipped in with two wickets in four balls. Muhammad removed Kent to leave Fareham’s innings in tatters at 67 for 7. An early finish looked likely, but Davey and White responded with aggression to take the score onto 102 before Jono skittled White. Davey continued to play shots while Briggs gave solid support. A Fareham win looked possible if Davey carried on his onslaught, but Keiron bowled him to end a partnership of 56 for the ninth wicket.
