Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost By 6 Runs

Match report So to the SE Rep Playoff game against the strong Grayshott side we beat in the opening game of the season:
Despite a very tight set of overs from Freddie, a brace of wickets for Tom (and a run out) and a scalp for Joel too we saw their batting line up post a very competitive score of 160.
In the chase we started up with the rate as Freddie and Alex found the ropes. After Alex fell walking across his stumps to be bowled, Tristan C joined Freddie and their bowling slowed us a little. Freddie however soon upped the anti again and retired at well over a run a ball. This bought the t'other Tristan to the crease. After a brief period a consolidation 'Stan Nay started slamming the ball to all parts taking us deeper into the innings and in with a shout. However, the re-introduction of their opening bowler made a significant difference. TC fell to a very sharp stumping - having charged what turned out to be a bumper he just failed to get back as their 'keeper took the ball above his head but whipped off the bails smartly. Joel almost fell to the same fate the very next ball but survived to push things along. With us needing 15 an over off the last 3 Joel fell to a direct hit run out at the non-strikers end trying to take a three we had to make to stay in the hunt. Having played, perhaps, the knock of the day Stan fell similarly - but would have retired anyway. This left Umar and Lenny to get 20 off the last over. byes, scampered twos, a no ball and a lovely leg side flick for four from Umar got us agonisingly close but it wasn't to be.
In the final analysis I feel we might have won posting our score first but knowing what they were defending meant Grayshott could protect boundaries more securely and ultimately deserved their win.
No shame in the defeat though boys. Well played.
