Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B v Steep on Tue 22 May 2018 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
The U13Bs finished their 3rd game unbeaten in a convincing win against Steep.
Steep won the toss and opted to bat first, Jack and Harrison opened the bowling this time and whilst Jack bowled a tight first over, Harrison unusually gave away 14 runs meaning the opposition were off to a decent start. Harrison's second over was still not quite to his usual economy rate giving away a no ball and a wide but he managed to hold his nerve and find his action again on the 4th ball of the over to take the first wicket of the game.
Tom and James were up next, Tom bowled 2 fantastic overs giving away very few runs but it was James that gave the bowling performance of the evening with only 4 runs off his 1st over followed by a double wicket maiden on his 2nd. The fielding was good overall, Tom took his 6th catch of the season off Alfie's bowling, Oscar took a wicket in his U13s debut and Harrison calmly took a run out for the 6th and final wicket of the innings. Both Robert and Daniel bowled well plus Jack bowled a maiden in the 20th over to keep Steep's run total down to 91.
Mixing the batting order up a bit saw Fin and James open after not batting last match. Unfortunately Fin was caught out on the 2nd ball of the innings but James looked extremely comfortable throughout. He continued scoring steadily whilst Tom, Oscar and Daniel lost their wicket within the next 6 overs. James eventually retired on 35 runs after a great batting performance and displayed mature running/calling for every single, bye, wide or no ball possible. Robert stayed in for a while partnered by Harrison who came in 7th scoring 5 off his 1st two balls, Rob ran confidently but was bowled by their top wicket taker of the night, Alfie got off to a good start hitting 3 runs off the remainder of that over. There was a close call for a run out at one point but Alf and Harrison saw out the next over and a half relatively easily to get to the total required.
Tonight's win was a real team effort, the change in batting and bowling order would always put pressure on the players but they proved they are more than able to cope with this, they showed great sportsmanship, worked hard in all areas and won the match with 6 overs to spare, only 2 bonus points dropped so far this season so a really impressive start, well done boys.
