Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13B v Havant B on Wed 09 May 2018 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report It was good to get off to a winning start to the season, we made harder work of it in the end than we needed to although this did make for a nail biting ending!

The whole team bowled excellently, matched by equally as good skill in the field. Wickets were taken by Harrison, Alfie, Daniel and Lochie but particular mention needs to go to Ged for taking 3 wickets. Tom took a spectacular catch off one of Daniel's deliveries and Harrison picked up the ball sharply in the field to throw in to Fin for a close run out. Robert displayed some really accurate throws and was very quick getting to the ball before it reached the boundary throughout. It was great to see Lochie and James bowling so well in their first match for P&S.

Havant were all out for 105 so definitely a total the boys would hope to chase fairly comfortably.

Tom and Harrison stepped up to bat first, there runs came very slowly in the first 3 overs, they had 2 strong opening bowlers (one county player) and their bowling was accurate and difficult to hit. The boys ran well where they could and looked confident. Harrison was caught out in the 4th over to an excellent ball which just caught the edge of his bat. James came into bat and once the next pair of bowlers came in the boys started to score runs at a better rate, the bowlers started to give away a few more extras so we looked back on track for the win. James was out for 15 to a very unlucky run out (although he was lucky to not be out after a couple of runs to a possible LBW) and Tom was out for 16 to an LBW, although this one was not clear cut. The batting scores did not really reflect how well the first 3 batsman played but there was a decent score on the board when Fin and Alfie came into bat.

Finlay looked confident batting, hitting 6 fours, him and Alfie ran well and eventually Fin retired on 36 and Alfie was out for 6 (again this did not reflect how well he batted). Robert and Daniel were in next. Unfortunately Robert was out for 0 as was Ged and then Lochie who came in next. We sat on 105 runs for what seemed like an age, we could just not get that last run to win and we were relieved that the new rule of 'last man standing' gave us a life line whereas last season it would have seen us draw the game. Daniel held his nerve with Lochie as his runner and managed to finally get that last run to win us the game at the end of the 16th over.

Well done boys, a really positive start to the season, we were unlucky with the batting at times but every single player gave their all to push us to our first victory of the campaign.
