Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 11 v Portsmouth on Sun 27 May 2018 at 09:30am
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 58 runs

Match report The 11bs are going from strength to strength and they needed to ensure they worked hard as the matches against our local rivals are always tough.

Sid the skipper (his nickname for today) lost the toss so we were in to bat first. The 1st pair started slow as the opening bowlers kept things tight but in the 2rd and 4th over Henry hit a couple of 4s plus there were a few extras on the board. The 2nd pair, Harrison and Luke unfortunately faced 16 out of the 24 balls wide or no balls so had limited opportunity to get their own runs on the board. They didn't lose their wickets though and kept things ticking over nicely. Well done to Luke on his debut for the U11s, great performance all round. We lost 5 wickets in the next couple of pairs but Tom put 13 on the board to continue his confident batting run of late. Possibly a bit more decisive calling required but all in all confident batting all round with both Ryan and Samuel hitting their first 4s of the season. Elliott and Jacob came in last and despite the age and size difference, these two have formed a good batting partnership in the last few games. Their calling and running was superb and they put 19 runs on between them to leave us on 143 runs.

Portsmouth took 5 wickets in total so started their innings on 25.

There was some great fielding displayed today with backing up much improved from previous matches. Wickets were spread around today, the 1st came from Elliott who was helped by a world class catch from Sid, who even looked surprised himself when he looked at his hands and the ball was still firmly there. Other wickets came from Harrison, Henry who also threw the ball in quick to Tom for a run out, Roman and 2 for Sam. Sam's 2nd wicket came after he bowled a wide on the 6th ball of the 20th over so he made ball number 7 count. Great delivery but the batsman hit it hard with Elliott taking a tricky catch (he has the bruise to prove it which we have all seen and heard about several times!) Portsmouth ended on 120 but we took 7 wickets in total so added 35 to our runs score to end on 178. Our highest score of the season.
