Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 1 run

Match report P & S almost rounded off the weekend in perfect fashion when they failed to knock Bashley first team out of the Southern Electric Cup by the narrowest of margins, following their huge win at Purbrook the day before.
Bashley chose to bat in rather humid sunshine and lost both of their openers to full tosses in the first three overs. Porter and Taylor brought up the fifty off six overs at which point Keiron came on and dismissed them both off consecutive deliveries. He followed this by having Watkins lbw with only six runs added. At 64, Kennett was bowled by Jake with 9 overs to go. Ridley and Underwood then added 33 in 5 overs before Rob bowled the dangerous Underwood. Ridley concentrated on making sure the 20 overs were used before being last out.
Shaun went early and Tom couldn’t get going. He and Matt were both victims of Watkins’ off spin. Rob went in at 47 for 3 (9th over) and helped Jack add 29 off 20 balls. When Jack was very well caught in the covers in the 15th over, 32 were needed from 28 deliveries, but wickets kept falling until nine were needed from the last over with only three wickets left. Jake took a single from the second ball. Rajeev skied the next and was caught off Dorset seamer Currie. Jake retained the strike and was hit on the shoulder by the fifth. This meant that only a six off a no ball (or some unlikely wides) would win the game. Jake hit the six but alas, it wasn’t a no ball and Bashley squeezed through to the next round by the skin of their teeth.
This was a thrilling match and P & S can take a lot of confidence from the whole weekend.
