Match report On another blisteringly hot day, Keiron won a vital toss in the knowledge that South Wilts II had not won batting second this season. Without Jack (on holiday) and Matt (on crutches), Tom and Jake had a go at opening. They were not parted until 40 runs were on the board in 15 overs.They saw off both opening bowlers and equalled the previous best opening partnership of the season. Jake played on at 59 before Ollie and Rob added 62 in 15 overs. Rob was undone by one that kept low (121 for 3). This instigated a collapse in which six wickets were lost for 40 runs and included the loss of Ollie whose fifty took his average to 43 since moving to number three in the batting order. It looked as if all the hard work might have been wasted but Jono and Keiron made 32 together in four overs to tilt the balance the visitors’ way.
When South Wilts batted, Chris soon located his rhythm and after 13 overs, he had taken 3 for 14 and the home side were 44 for 3. Ben replaced Jake and with his ninth ball had Berzins caught at slip with only four added. This brought in Rob Pittman who got after Ben and took 18 off his fifth over, but in the next, miscued a skier. Jake took a very good running catch. There followed the highest partnership of the innings with Pearce and Sam Pittman hauled their side back into the game, adding 49 in 14 overs. Jake’s sharp gully catch saw the end of the adhesive Pearce and Kidd also fell to Rob four runs later. The writing was on the wall when Jono beat Pittman for pace; 68 were now needed in eleven overs. FIsher and Wade put on 25 in five overs before Keiron an lbw shout against the latter, leaving Jono to apply the coup de grace and clinch the fourth (away) win of the season; a very pleasing result.
