Match report A memorable day for the 4th team as we picked up an unexpected victory.
Captain Neil won the toss and chose to bat first on a hot day at Langstone. Our top order was blown away by the Rowner opening bowlers who gave nothing away and things looked very bleak when our top 4 were all dismissed quickly and none of them reaching double figures. Steve offered some resistance and Faisal promoted up the order looked very determined to steady the ship. Steve was caught for 10 trying to pick up the run rate which brought Lenny to crease who played in a very mature way for his 10 before we was bowled. Matt was next man in and looked good for his two boundaries before he was bowled. The Rowner bowlers showed no sign of letting up as their first change bowlers were tidy. Mani came to the crease and was caught early on. Next was Mo and he along with Faisal who was watching the wickets tumble from the other end had a fantastic partnership which gave our bowlers something to defend before Faisal was caught for a fantastic 27 and Mo also caught for a mature 20 took us to 116. At the half way stage this didn't look enough.
Matt and Faisal opened the bowling and Matt looked lethal extracting great bounce from the dry pitch causing the Rowner Batsmen lots of trouble and breaking the back of the Rowner line up picking up the top 3. At the 17th over Rowner were 60-3 and looking like they were on course to chase down the target with ease.In the 18th over a turning point as Dimash got his fingertips on a straight drive by the number 4 batsman to run out the batsman at the other end. Mani then cleaned up the middle order and the tail on a pitch that was made for spinners after the baking it had received by the scorching sun over the past weeks before. The last man was out when Lenny who had bowled an incredibly tidy 2.2 overs pushed one across the left handed number 11 who edged into the gloves of Neil.
A great win by the lads which tasted that little bit sweeter as at the half way point we looked out of it and it only being our second win of the season. Congrats to all the boys involved as none of us gave up.
