Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI v Ropley on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 1.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 71 runs

Match report Keiron won the toss and chose to bat on probably the best Saturday of the Summer so far. Ropley used off-spinner Newens as an opening bowler and his variations of pace and flight gave him the first three wickets. Shaun was at the crease after 18 overs with the score on 81 for 3. He and Clem were to add 101 in 21 overs. Shaun was caught at long on off the shot that would have brought up his maiden fifty for the club. Clem's vigil ended shortly after. Ollie sparkled briefly before Jake and Tom compiled 34 from five overs followed by a violent cameo from Jono. It was uncertain whether 265 was sufficient against high-flying Ropley.
The visitors began confidently before Smith went at 39 in the eleventh over. Keiron began the 17th over with the total on 58 and trapped the impressive Wood with his first ball. Greenwood followed at 70 in the same manner, having made no impact. Ben secured the fourth lbw with a well pitched-up delivery ( Mick gave none of these) to defeat the aggressive Ireland at 106 for 4. Stogdon took the spinners on with some success, but after Spencer went, he was stumped attempting another big hit. When Forrest was caught it was139 for 7 and a home win looked inevitable.
Teenagers Oxenham and Austin counterattacked and put on 32 off only eleven balls. Hawkings, another youngster hit bravely, but the match ended with more than five overs left and maximum points achieved. Keiron took four wickets for the second successive week.
With Ryde and Lymington II both losing, P & S are now equal first in the league.
