Hythe & Dibden v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Jun 2017 at 1.00pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 53 runs

Match report P & S entered this match with fitness doubts concerning both the opening bowlers. In the event, Matt bowled at a reduced pace and Jake didn't bowl at all. Keiron lost the toss so the visitors faced batting first for the first time in the league this season.
For the second week running, Jack and Smithy gave their side a rapid 50 opening partnership. This one comprised 65 in 12 overs. Matt joined Jack and together, they added 57 in 8 before the home leg-spinner bowled Jack. This united the Benfield brothers in another fruitful amalgamation. 90 runs were added in 15 overs before Matt mishooked after looking odds on for a century.
This seemed to galvanise Hythe and with ball softening and keeping low, runs were harder to come by. Tom was out (for the first time this season in the league) with 6 overs to go and the 38 runs added were mainly down to Jake and Ollie. There was some concern that perhaps 291 was slightly under par for this ground.
These concerns were not quickly dispelled as the home openers set about the visiting bowling. Their hundred partnership was posted in the 18th over after which Ben was introduced to the attack. In his first over, Young was caught at long-on (108 for 1 off 19 overs). Guymer soon followed, Tom diving forward in the deep to take a very good catch. The score reached 151 before Matt dismissed the impressive Richards thanks to a fine diving catch from Ollie. At 164, Agha, who had seemed to tire, was well caught by Matt, again at long-on. Mason went next ball and Ben was on a hat-trick (164 for 5). Only one run had been added when Tom's leg spin dismissed Howe. Jono was brought back and took two wickets in three balls to leave Hythe with only further batting points to hope for (171 for 8 from 32 overs). Nobody told Deacon and then Ahmedzi that the game was over as they launched their own assaults on the P & S bowling, but the game ended with the last ball of the 44th over when, fittingly, Matt ran Ahmedzi out and clinched maximum points for the visitors.
