Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 20 runs

Match report Well, tonight was an object lesson in how to improve the mood of your coach. Firstly you have to make sure he is as grumpy as possible.... Losing the toss we were asked to bat and our openers proceeded to try and smash the back wall every ball. A dropped catch 1st ball was followed by a catch off a no ball and a wicket due to more kamikaze hitting. Thanks to generous extras we were 17-1 off 1 over. 3 balls later we lost our second opener, again due to ill-conceived hitting, so we stood at 17-2 off 2 overs. Thankfully things calmed down as Nick and Dan rebuilt. It must be said the bowling on offer was good and it was difficult for them to get going. Dan perished having got frustrated and tried a non-existent run. Freddie and Tristan both looked settled despite balls whistling around their chests but both fell taking necessary tight runs. Nick rode it all but looking to finish with a flourish holed out on the back wall off the last ball. 91 wasn't good enough. Well as they bowled and as hard our lower order battled our openers should look hard at how they approach the next game.
Now, to improve your coach's mood you need to put in a bowling performance to make him forget the batting!
Dan & Harlan got their openers hoping and fending. A couple of balls flew out of reach but eventually a cracking catch from Ollie got us rolling and a run out well managed by Harlan saw them 2 down quickly. The introduction of Nick fired their main man into action and he took him for a couple of back wall strikes. Enter Freddie who again bossed things for us. A caught and bowled to deal with their frustrated number 4 and a big edge snaffled by the tidy Tristan saw two more sent packing. This bought the big gun back but the climbing rate provided Harlan with the opportunity to take a direct hit run out to leave just the opener. We contrived to drop him a couple of time but Freddie, then Harlan kept him quiet enough until the last over. Dan had the responsibility to see us home and so he did with the help of Harlan's hands with 4 balls to spare.
The best bowling performance of the season (only 1 wide) led us to a great win from a halfway point that really didn't deserve it.
Still, with 2 games to go we are still unbeaten and the coach is all smiles again!
