Match report This was a rescheduled game that was played on a cold, damp and dark evening at Ridge Meadow. Hambledon batted first and the opening partnership of Moger and Willoughby saw them off to a good start. Ollie shuffled his bowlers unitl Sonny made the breakthrough with a superb diving catch off his own bowling, but by this time hambledon had put on 68 runs. The other opener soon followed due to taking on Nick's throw from the deep and underestimating how quick Nick can get a ball in. Hambledon pushed on but wickets fell at regular intervals, one to Ollie, one to Nick and then another to Sonny thanks to a good catch by Marcus. A final flourish saw a score of 117 posted.
The top order slots were offered around espcially to those that didnt bowl much (or at all), Mani was the only volounteer outside of the usual suspects and so he opened with Nick. After a careful couple of overs, a mix of boundaries and singles saw this partnership set us well on our way, so much so that after 10 overs we had scored 60 and were well placed in the game. Nick capped his best game in a P and S shirt with a retirement with 41no. Soon after this Mani persished but only after having played a fantastic knock of 34. We had 94 for 1 on the board off 14 overs, needing just 24 off the final 6 overs. Harlan and Ollie made quick work of seeing us home in the dark, so much so that we got there with over 3 overs to spare.
A good win on a tricky night, especially batting second on a dark evening. Well done to Mani for stepping up to opening and getting his just reward, meaning that those who declined batting top 4 or 5 missed out an a bat. Something to think about for the next game when the batting slots are offered out.
