Match report Another nerve jangler was played out at Hambledon with all results possible on the last ball. Choosing to bat Edward and Elliott faced some quick and straight bowling with Edward clipping a four. Although Sam and Declan didn't find the ropes they ran with real purpose, Declan being particularly confident in his calling and decision making. Our third pair, Harrison and Alfie really got us going. Harrison top scoring through strong leg side play and Alfie playing the two shots of the evening, the first through extra cover and the second a boundary through cover. Noah and Sid faced perhaps their quickest bowler of the evening and battled well. Their scoring might have been more had they been tempted to chase a few of the leg side offerings. The inning closed with Tom and Umar both crashing pulls to the backward square boundary. The biggest hit of night was Umar's dropping close the rope. As they only bowled 11 extra our score of 259 was commendable and competitive.
In the field they got off to a bit of a flyer but our bowlers stuck to their guns exceptionally well and all deserve congratulations for a very tidy display. Pick of the bowlers was Elliott who's first ball got our only wicket. The final pair started with us a run behind. A couple of byes and a scampered single meant we needed a wicket off the last couple of balls. While Harrison was on target their skipper played with a cool head and dotted his side home.
In summary it was a really good performance from us tonight. We've picked up a couple of points to work on with our batting over the winter - namely, hitting through the offside and lining up leg side shots better. We're getting there...
