Match report P&S continued their good run of form in a bizarre win away at Fareham on a gloriously sunny Sunday morning.
The visitors batted first and faced some hostile bowling from the quick Fareham openers; Arthur was hit on the foot before Fred took a blow to the shoulder as the uneven bounce from a pitch with cracks like the grand canyon took its toll. Shortly after, Fred edged an attempted cut which the keeper held onto and the wickets began to tumble. Arthur was well bowled for a watchful 6, before Charlie was run out without even facing a ball. When Ben came in at 8 to join Harrison E the scoreboard was a miserly 46 but those two, plus Flynn batting for only his second innings, stuck around to add 10 more to the total as we closed on 56 all out.
The Fareham coach was overheard telling his players to focus as they had lost games like this in the past. This gave us some hope, and some devastating bowling from Fred and particularly Charlie, who finished with a a season best 3/7 off four overs ripped through the top order. The boys began to believe an unlikely win was on the cards as the runs dried up and the wickets continued with all the bowlers performing well. With 8 overs left Fareham needed just 12 to win, but up stepped Callum, the lad who has even more of a knack of taking wickets than Moeen Ali. The final four wickets fell for six runs as Fareham were bowled out for 51, Callum finishing with a staggering 4/4 off 12 balls.
An excellent team effort and 3 wins in 4 now as we end the season on a high. Special thanks to Simon at Fareham for some leniancy during our batting innings, it may or may not have cost them the game but was the right thing to do to keep players safe on a potentially dangerous pitch. #up the whites!
