Match report A night to forget.
The addition of big Jack Campbell to Petersfield's last year squad helped them do exactly what we did to them last year - tonight they gave us a proper hiding.
As I suspect Petersfield felt last season, we have to think critically about our performance how ever well our opponents played.
We lost it in the batting, lurching from suicidal running (losing Daniel C and Freddie) to forgoing what has been our strength over our title winning seasons. Once Harry had retired we became rather becalmed scoring only 29 runs in 6 overs. His return helped Harlan liven things up for an over before Harlan top edged a bouncer to see him end in the 40s and us end 2 short of a third batting point.

It's worth noting, we hadn't dropped a batting point in the last 3 season before our last match and have now dropped 5 points in two digs. We must get back to playing proper indoor cricket, soft hands, finding gaps, backing up and running with confidence. There will always be opportunities to hit the back wall and when they come we're good enough to take them BUT we must be thinking 3 runs is our stock in trade.

In the field we needed early inroads but it was never to be. They gave us just 9 extras. We gifted 53! The closest we got to a wicket was a cracking bit of fielding from Freddie, his direct hit being just beaten by a stretching Gabe. In the end they romped home with all but a ball of 4 overs left with all their wickets intact.

While its never over until the rotund woman warbles Petersfield looked as good as we looked poor tonight and our lack of bonus points means if we're to defend our title we will have to win all the way home and they lose twice. Whatever the chances of that we owe it to ourselves to pick ourselves up and prove we are as good as the side we were when we were crowned deserved champs last season. Next time then.
