Netley Sports v Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 05 Jul 2008 at 2:00
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won 23 runs

Match report Eight on the Bounce - Literally.
A great game played on surface that was certainly a "homer" since while it was generally a regular bounce (except for the pea roller Owen got!) we'll not play on a pitch that plays that way for the rest of the year.
Losing the toss we were asked to bat and Simon got us off to a flyer hitting 4's by the brace every over. At the other end the Skipper managed to glove one in front of his nose early and leave the others to post our score. As mentioned Owen was completely blameless in his dismissal. The ball before his departure saw Simon cop one on the shoulder for a leg bye and then Owen got the same length ball which shot along the ground and clipped the off stump. This saw the introduction of their slower bowlers and scoring became difficult. SS shored up his end while Alex on 2nds debut kept him company and was good value for his runs. With 5 overs to go we really had to step on the gas and lead initally by the Big Mac and Evans Snr then Flashing Blade Wilson and the fleet footed RG we added 50+ runs to take us to what I thought could be possibly 30 runs light. But what a bowling performance.
Deano started briskly and but for a dropped catch would have been in the wickets early. Doug at the other end bowled his best spell of the year keeping it tight and beating the edge with bounce and movement. It was Doug who got us going inducing their attacking opener to hole out at mid off. Al and Roy kept us on top of the run rate but their no3 was looking dangerous as he started to swing good balls over the leg side for maximums. This prompted a return of Deano who switched ends and bowled like the wind picking up two wickets and worring all their guys. Excellent fielding saw the stumps hit serveral times, with Matt Benfield being close with a run-out appeal and Rob Evans going one better, getting his man. Not to be outdone by the boy, Keith Evans rolled back the years effecting another direct hit run-out haring in from long on. With them still well in the hunt we asked Fletch to see us home. A first ball wide perhaps showed a some nerves but that was the last time he put a foot wrong. In his last performance this year Al McBride showed how we'll miss him, nicking a couple and Alex finished it all off with one bowled, an excellent c&b and a final nick behind.
Netley are a good side and well run club (thanks to them for providing both upmires) and we had to work very hard for the win. Our bowling and fielding was high intensity all the way through so very well done to all. The win was the most satisfying of the year to date.
