Match report No. 6 - We're still rollin'.
Winning the toss the skipper faced the wrath of the batmen by inserting Bishops Waltham. The idea was to see our strong bowling attack make use of the new ball. We started very tighly with them crawling along at less than 2 an over with both Deano & Matt troubling the openers. They did however weather the storm without really looking in control with Deano again looking firey. He bowled 10 overs on the reel taking, at the stage, 2 for 15. Matt was unlucky,having their best bat dropped by a suitably embarrassed Captain! Unfortuately the clumsy fielding was infectious and a further 6 relatively easy chances were spilled! We must do better next time out. Once Deano & Matt were done they we're relaced by Big Mac & Roy. While both created chances it was Roy who again snapped up regular wickets. For the second week running Roy's last over saw him watch a potential 5th wicket be grassed - anyone would have thought it was a conspiracy.... In the closing overs Deano returned to terrorise the lower order but while he picked up a further wicket he saw his figures dented a little by flying edges. It was a disappointment not to bowl the opposition out but the pitch was a good one and they didn't chance their arms too much which always makes it tricky. Holding a few catches would have helped too.
After tea their opening bowlers made it a tricky start as they bowled great lines and were swinging the ball. Despite a few top shots that found the rope Dan followed Simon back to the hutch. With 115 needed Matt Shaw and Tim Joy came together and with increasing belligerence built the partnership that brought us home. Following 2 scores in the mid-forties Sherm finally resolved not to get stumped and made it to an excellent 50. Tim in turn completed his half century which confirmed, that even in his dotage(well, he's over 40 anyway), he's a class apart. Batting looks great, Bowling is spot on - Catching? watch this space....
