Match report A night to remember.
Pitted against Sarisbury (who had already beaten us well this year) we were playing off on the Ageas Bowl for the right to lead the pro teams out in front of the Sky TV cameras.
On the big stage our game came together. Asked to bat George and Harrison set us up with Harrison particularly aggressive. Charlie and Nerash keep us moving but some confused running cost a wicket. Next pair Sam and Oakley scored heavily but were pegged back with a run out and seeing the stumps rattled a couple of times. This bought last pair Freddie and Ben together. Freddie smashed the bowling to all parts, with one six making it on to the pitch the pros were about to play on. Ben rounded things off with a neat deflection for a single off the pick of their bowlers.
Our bowling started a little scruffily as we strived for pace rather than accuracy but both George and Nerash bowled with 'good wheels' (speed). Oakley and Ben stifled the scoring as did Charlie who combined accuracy and pace. The turning point in the innings was the introduction of Harrison in the 6th over when he picked a deserved two wickets and built enough pressure to get a run out too. The reliable Sam then kept a lid on things before Freddie got his in-swingers going to take another scalp. Ben bowled the penultimate over, which in the face of out and out hitting kept the pot boiling nicely. With 12 needed off the last, Freddie stepped up and bowled his Hampshire colleague which effectively saw us home by 8 runs.
A great game. You were a credit to your club. Well done all.
