Match report We took a pretty inexperienced team and fought well in an exciting game but in the end an excellent bowling performance from our hosts proved too good (just!). Being asked to field Harlan took his customary first over wicket and Dan was miserly. Change bowlers Ollie D and Tristan kept us in the game before Tristan really turned it on with a wicket maiden and followed that up with a double in the next over (thanks to a stumping and smart catch from Harlan).Our second U11, Harrison too bowled with great control and bowled their danger man before taking a second scalp thanks to Stewart's safe hands. Stewart himself opened his bowling with a wicket maiden and other sets from Mani, Amir and Will saw us hold them to 87 off their allocation. At half way we were confident but knew we would need a couple of retirees.
Unfortunately we lost Harry before we had scored and other "bankers" Harlan and Dan perished early. A carefully built, then expanded, partnership between Ollie and Will got us believing again and their running was an example to follow. Once Ollie retired however our running became more hesitant and Will trying to force things was neatly caught in the covers. Nerves and in experience then set in and 4 run outs later we came up a few short.
While it was a disappointing result our bowling performance was heartening as 5 of the 7 wickets we took were snapped up by U11 players.
More composure and positivity when running would have seen us home. Something to work on at training.....
