Match report A much improved performance by the U13b team. Put into bat after Dan lost the toss in his first game as skipper, the Davis Marks brothers had us off to a flyer. Some fine running saw them accumulate 24 runs. Next up Alex and Aquib, Alex hitting a fine four and looked in great form, and was well supported by Aquib who although he missed a straight one played his part in a partnership of 18. Fareham fought back, good bowling saw Marcus dismissed twice, but he and Ben held things together well, a classy drive through the covers from Ben the highlught of their partnership. Robbie was unlucky to be run out first ball with a direct hit from the boundary (run your bat in next time Robbie!), but recovered well hitting consecutive boundaries, he was well supported by Tristam, superb running and calling took them to 23. The final pair Dan and Amir faced some good bowling, but held their nerve, a crashing four from Dan and a rather wild last over heklped add another 22 runs, giving us a very respectable score of 286.
Dan got us off to a great start hitting the off stump with the first ball of the innings, and then doing the same to the other opener in his second over, at the other end Harry bowled straight and true as our opening bowlers laid the foundations. Aquib, Alex and Ben kept the pressure on, and when Tristrams bowling led to a run out we looked in control. A fine 4th pairing partnership of 25 almost turned the game for Fareham, and after good bowling from Alex and the returning Aquib, Fareham were left needing 17 from the last over, but good fast straight bowling from Harry, sent the stumps clattering twice more to secure a fine win by 20 runs. Special mention for George who in the absence of a regular keeper volunetered to step into the breach and did a fine job behind the stumps.
Well played boys, great to see enthusiasm and encouragement in the field and good to get an early win on the board.
