Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Under 13A v Locks Heath Girls on Wed 09 Jul 2014 at 6pm
Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Won by 86 runs

Match report An entertaining game played in great spirit saw us bat first with Ollie and Freddie running with excellent purpose and finding the ropes with regularity. At 60 off the first 6 Ollie retired to be followed by Freddie a couple of overs later. This left Daniel and Ben to continue the good work. While not quite at the same pace they were positive and both found the boundary well, the pick being Dan's pick up that needed only one bounce to make the big side of the ground. With retirement beckoning Daniel was unlucky to drag on in the 18th over. With only 3 overs left Kyle "took one of the team" with a chancy second only to beaten by a direct hit. Harry got a scuttler first ball to be bowled and Harlan came in for the last ball to clip a confident 2.
With the "one wing" Donsworth straight on the money we started well. At the other end a nervy first few balls told little of the fireworks to come from Josh. In his next over Josh snapped up our first wicket with the help of a sharp catch at short cover from Ollie and Mani's first over saw a similar result before he also accounted for the opener with a great ball. While Henry's overs went wicketless it was not without near misses and was a very tidy spell. Harry too missed out on a wicket although great work from him did yield a good run out with the help of Daniels gloves (there could yet be a career behind the stumps for Dan as be displayed really good footwork all evening - a super 'keeping debut). Kyle was soon in the wickets firstly tempting their best bat to smack a ball to square leg where Ollie took a stinger and then finding the outside edge to see Harlan stoop to take a good catch. Harlan too went with a wicket but we can't complain at his economy rate of 2 albeit it wasn't quite as tight as Will's 1 per over. Anyway, back to Master Poole who back for his second spell found a great length to bowl his next wicket, see Will pouch one at midwicket, then close the over out with Harlan taking a top catch running back over his shoulder after Josh had found the edge - a well deserved Hat-trick. Despite Josh striving for his 5th wicket and Will bowling a good last over, we couldn't get the last wicket although a fumble cost us a penultimate ball run out. Nevertheless, it was good performance all round and it looks like we've got last weeks horror show out of our system ;-)
