Match report T'was the night before (the night before, the night before) Christmas..... when we took on a developing Locks Heath side. Winning the toss we elected to bat and normal service was resumed as Dan C and Harlan neatly found the gaps both sides of the wicket to retire within a ball of each other. The more frenetic running that had previously been a feature of Ollie and Dan T's partnerships was no where to be seen as Ollie hit the back wall for four then six. When Ollie retired Kyle joined Dan and they too ran well with Kyle particularly showing great touch and placement to find gaps behind square and in the covers to retire in quick time. That bought debutant Alex to the crease and he was soon into his stride too playing with soft hands. In his best innings to date shot of the day came from Daniel T's bat as he blistered a text book four through mid off. The only wicket to fall was the unlucky Alex who was just caught short in a run. With a bit more experience and some aggressive backing up he'll make many more runs though. Harlan returned for the last ball and collected a 3 to see us to a good 165. In the field Alex got the ball rolling with a great early ball to send back their opener and he was in the game a couple of overs later with a sharp catch off the wall to give Kyle a deserved wicket. For a while their number 3 played a good hand striking a 6 and 4 but he was undone by a Dan C quicker ball. With overs running out Harlan and Dan T regularly beat the bat. In the last 5 overs only 2 runs came off their bats (and only 5 wides were bowled)as ball after ball smacked into Ollie's gloves or trickled to fielders. As Harlan took the ball for the last over we needed two wickets for maximum points (they only had 5 batters). A quick one on off stump accounted for one bat and with the penultimate ball of the game Ollie took a length ball at shoulder height and whipped of the bails to give Harlan his richly deserved second scalp. Well played all but a special mention for Alex who didn't look out of his depth on debut and Kyle for his maiden retirement. Wishing all our readers a Happy Christmas and New Year.
