Match report On a bowlers day the day's skipper, JB, lost the toss and we were asked to bat. Faced with a pair of Surrey bowlers we lost Dan Cox to a leg stump Yorker in the first over but Ollie and JB built well for a while until a 3rd county lad picked up the ball. His left arm spin induced a leading edge from John and a quick one next ball accounted for Harry Leggett. The following over saw Ollie crack one of the few loose balls bowled straight to cover. Harry H with stoic support from George hit the first 4 of the day but also perished to covers safe hands. Harlan got a decent outswinger and Dan T offered a return catch to leave us 39 - 8. Enter Henry who neatly pushed a second boundary square and followed with a carbon copy. A tight call from Henry saw George's important knock ended as even he of the lightening heals couldn't make his ground (the despairing dive only told of a rugby career and extensive laundry bill!). Kyle got into line well against the quicks and found the gaps running aggressively with Henry. When he was finally done for pace Will joined Henry to add the last few runs before Henry holed out.
A win would require a spectacular display with the ball and once Harry had left two stumps standing with a seamer and Harlan the same with an inswinger they were 2 - 5 off 2. With us on top the rain came and forced us off for a while. On our return skipper and partner shut down and built solidly. Despite Coxie causing a few flutters they got within a whisker before JB's off spin made use of HH's safe hands to provide our last success. Another 20 runs would have been interesting but our frail batting cost us here. Nevertheless our bowling and fielding kept us competitive in a high calibre match.
