Match report Beaten but in a good tight game.
Things couldn't have started worse as Harry W was run out without facing. Dan C then played carefully to give us a base against some good bowling from Ollie Southon and P&S new boy Harlan Randell. Harry G was kept way from the strike for a while but when he got a hit found the back wall convincingly. When he retired Ollie joined Dan just as he expanded his shots and the two retired with tidy compact play. Will was as unlucky as HW when he perished, run out, without facing. That bought HG back to join Daniel T who played a useful hand before being bowled by a good slower ball from their quick man. Harry took only a few balls to retire for the second time, to underline his table topping batting credentials. With balls running out Dan C came and went before Harry found time to hit the back wall again before being bowled one shy of a deserved half century with the last ball.
In the field we were a little off our best with balls just trickling to the wall on a number of occasions, a couple of tough catches put down and run out chances missed. That said we were up against the best batting side the league could muster. While HG was the only wicket taker, HW was the pick of the bowlers going at just 7 per over. In the end a six from Harlan, 4 wides and a 4 from Jamie Dunn hurried the end just as we started thinking the win was on.
There is no shame in losing a match such as this and I hope the boys enjoyed the evening, the league title was well deserved and I enjoyed the chance to manage them. Signing off 'till next autumn, Sean.
