Match report Well beaten by a decent Pompey side but certainly not disgraced. Our inexperienced side bowled well in parts (a few too many wides though - 34 to their 14!) and threw themselves around in the field well, particularly Henry, Robbie, Daniel and Oscar. If we were a little more brave/confident we could have had at least two more catches to add to the 3 we took. The wicket, being a high bouncing artificial, meant we had to adjust our lengths which we found difficult but more often than not we'll now be playing on grass. Peter and Robbie closed the session in the field with the tightest figures of the innings.
Chasing a large total of 144 Oscar and Dan fronted up well but found scoring tricky against very tidy bowling attack. Oscar got a good one and Dan was got trying to run overthrows. I believe that's the 4th wicket we've lost doing that this year - think hard before taking it on. With Harry and Will together we started to motor a bit until Harry was well caught at extra cover. However, Theo kept Will company until he retired for a very well compiled 20. That left the swashbuckling Henry and the obdurate George to see us to the close at a creditable 87.
All the lads did themselves proud but a special mention to Robbie, Theo and George for whom this is relatively new territory and to Will for his batting and fledgling 'keeping on an unfamilar track.
