Portsmouth & Southsea Cricket Club Lost by 30 runs

Match report So our League season ends with a well contested defeat. The match was very evenly fought right until their last pair of batsmen, who were as good a pair of players as we've seen this year.
We were asked to bat first and Fin and Peter got us off to a good start. Unfortuately for us, as was to become a feature, Vospers catching was faultless and a couple of wickets pulled us back. Next pair Sunni and George went off like a rocket scoring runs all round the ground but again more catches were taken. Shot of the day came from Theo cracking a ball through the off side for 4 and Jamie too showed excellent awareness in his second game placing the ball and calling well. Last pair Will and Ollie got us to what we thought was a defendable total with top scorer Will being the aggressor and Ollie picking up a run a ball.
Despite good straight bowling George was unlucky to see his first two balls go for 4 - another day both would have taken wickets but he came back strongly in his second over. Sunni was top bowler on the day bowling two and collecting a third thanks to an Ollie stumping. While the next pair Theo and Jamie went wicketless they only bowled a wide a piece which was excellent. Ollie bowled straight and showed good hands taking a caught and bowled during a tight couple of overs. Both Peter and George were disappointed that a cracking close catch by George didn't register in the wickets column as the ball was called no-ball. At that point the scores were pretty much level and we were hopeful Fin and Will would see us home. It was not to be. Although both bowled really well and at times were unlucky their best bats took them on and managed to find the boundary a number of times. Fins wicket came with the help of Theo's catch which was reward for a really good fielding display from him. If we could all be as enthusiastic as him we'd have won a number of extra games this year.
