After winning the toss and electing to field, all of our bowlers struggled to cope with a slow pitch and for many of them the chance to bowl on a sloping pitch. Apart from Harry "Golden Arm" Simister, taking 3 for 20 and a cameo appearance from Kai Pidgeon, everyone consistently bowled far too short to a pretty strong Fareham batting line up and were hammered all round the ground.Looking back we had done reasonably well up until the last 9 overs after which we conceded 94 runs.
Replying to a total of 162 it was always going to be a struggle against a side who naturally know how to bowl in the conditions. Apart from the now expected classy knock by Matt Benfield, 41, and a quick-fire 34 from Kai Pidgeon no one looked comfortable. This was not helped by four unnecessary run outs. Time to learn lads communication and positive decisions are essential.Know your partner. You can't score runs when you are back in the pavilion.
I fully congratulate all of the team for keeping there heads up right till the end and expect them to have learnt from losing to a team that,on the night, were better in every department. Heads up lads, we have the return fixture next week to demonstrate my faith in you.
