Match report Match Report – P & S v Locksheath 26 Jun 09

Played under perfect English Summer evening conditions, P&S went into bat and quickly set about the Locksheath bowling line up. Captain Sam Collings-Wells set an quick-fire run rate making full use of a short boundary, with an innings littered with 6s and 4s. Retiring after a very quick 34 runs, No 2 bat, Tom Lavery was joined by Seb Herold who followed his Skipper’s example and knocked up a healthy 34. Unfortunately, just as he was starting to hit the accelerator, Tom departed caught for 11 runs. With Matt Walker joining Seb in the middle, the race was on to knock the ball to all corners of the field. With Matt joining Seb and Sam in the pavilion after a fine innings of 31 runs, the remaining batsmen went hell for leather to rack up a near record target. Charlie Corbett went cheaply for 9 runs, Harrison Whitworth and Ben Tucker managed a handy partnership of 39 but in their chase to get runs quickly knowing there were 3 retired batsmen still to return to the crease, the bottom order of Ben Jackson, Pat Sillence, Charlie Wheeler and Joe Revell-Smith could only scrape together 12 runs before the end of the 20 over innings.

Bowling to a mighty target of 183 runs, gave the bowlers confidence to attack. The opening pair of Seb and Charlie set about their task with gusto which paid handsome dividends allowing them to make quick inroads into the opposition’s top order batsmen. Although there was some resistance from M Hindry, C Chamberlain and T Griffiths, after 20 overs Locksheath could only muster 90 runs, 93 short of the target. All the bowlers played their part, including Joe Revell-Smith, normally a part-time bowler who picked off a wicket on his first ball for bowling figures of 1-0-1-10. Pick of the bowlers was Tom Lavery with a 2 wicket over for 1 run, however all the bowlers can be proud of their line and length bowling. There were some sharp catches taken by Sam, Seb, Matt (2), Harrison and a great forward diving catch by Ben Jackson to pick the ball off his toes.
A fine and commanding performance by the team who can be proud of their achievement.
