Portsmouth & Southsea CC - NEW - Club Newsletter

  P&S CC Newsletter Spring 2008

I hope you all had a good winter and are looking forward to a hot and sunny summer! This newsletter reviews the winter and previews the summer months.

Winter 2007/8.

Our indoor U16s at Fareham had a superb winter, winning all their games for the second year running and finished as Champions in the Indoor League. The U16s finished runners up at Eastleigh and won the cup. The indoor U14s were runners up in the cup.

The training sessions at Springfield and Crookhorn were well attended by all age groups. We also moved the U15s to train with our adults and academy which proved a great success. At the majority of these sessions there were at least 4 qualified coaches and there are plans to get more adults qualified. If any of the parents want to become a qualified coach or volunteer please let me know. There is a Volunteers course at PGS on April 12th.

Congratulations to the 41 P&S boys & girls that were selected for County or District Development Centres. No other club in Hampshire has as many colts in the Centres.

ClubMark.

The club were granted ClubMark status during the summer which led to us also becoming a Focus club that opens up more avenues for fund raising.

Cricketforce 2008.

It is our intention to play the all of our home games at St James. The team managers are currently in the process of arranging dates for the relevant games and the P&S web site will be updates as these dates get confirmed. For our home games it would be helpful if parents could contribute towards the boys teas by bringing along a packet of biscuits or crisps etc.

maledyer@hotmail.com

. Rowan is a top coach so please make use of him.

Adult games.

We have 4 adult sides that play in the Hampshire League on Saturdays, if any of the boys want to play in these teams please let Dave Chisholm know and he will do his best to get you some games. Matt Smith will captain our midweek league side and Dan Cleary will be the Sunday captain. We are always in need of willing volunteers to help umpire or score at adult games as well as Colts games, if you feel you can help please let me know.

Clothing.

We have a range of P&S clothing available from Hargreaves in Rodney Rd. Although not compulsory it would be great to see all the boys in P&S shirts. Please see the website for more details

St James Update.

Last summer we managed to raise nearly £30,000 which allowe d us to install a new artificial match pitch and a new two bay net facility. We also purchased a top of the range bowling machine to go with our existing Kanonball machine. All head coaches will be equipped with new coaching equipment to help develop our Colts as much as possible.

This winters project was to raise £7,000 to allow us to completely overhaul our ageing roller, I am pleased to say we managed this just in time for the new season so with the help of our grounds staff we will be able to improve the quality of the wicket and outfield for this year.

Our next project will be to look at the viability of covering our net area to allow them to be used during the winter months and when it is raining in the summer. Any one who would like to get involved in this project would be most welcome.

Volunteers Course

We are running a 4 hour course at PGS Sports Hall on 12/4 from 3.00pm

7.00pm. These are good fun for mums or dads who want an introduction to cricket coaching. If you are interested please let me know.

Weather updates.

If for any reason a game is called off on the day the web site will be updated as soon as a decision is made. If unable to access the web site please call your team manager or failing that give me a ring. The same applies to training, please check if unsure.
